Jacob Carman was born in Venango Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania in 1813. His parents were James Carman (100) and Polly Randolph (101).
Between 1813 and 1820, Jacob and his family moved to Indiana. In 1820, Jacob was living with his family in Dear County, Indiana. By 1830, he and his family had moved to and were living in Parke County, Indiana.
He married Margaret Lunger on October 23, 1831, in Fountain County, Indiana. They had four children, who were Aaron, Alonzo, Phillip, and Mellissa.
In 1840, Jacob was living in Vermillion County, Indiana and was a farmer by trade. Living with him then was his wife Margaret and their son Aaron.
In 1850, Jacob was living in Perryville, Vermillion County, Indiana. His occupation by this time was that of a teamster. Living with him then was Margaret-31 years, Aaron-16 years and he was a laborour, Alonzo-7 years, Philip-5 years, and Mellissa-2 years. Aaron, Alonzo, and Philip were attending school that year.
In 1860, Jacob was still in Perryville , but he was now farming. He had real estate worth $700 and personal estate worth $400. Living with him was Margaret-44 years, Alonzo-17 years who was a laborer and had personal estate worth $15, Philip-14 years, and Melissa-13 years.
